I am so pleased to finally be able to respond to the demand for a “true, blue beginner” oriented West African Inspired Dance Class ~ Join us for this upcoming 8 week session!
Tuesdays, May 13th – July 1st, 2014, 7:30pm
at Portland Yoga Studio
Location & Time:
The lovely Portland Yoga Studio, 616 Congress St. on the 3rd floor.
7:30-8:45pm, Tuesdays, May 13 – July 1st.
See below for important studio details.*
What to Expect:
Each class will begin with a warm up, stretching and isolating many of the various muscles put to use with this dance form. I will then break down the movements of the dance and we’ll work them out across the floor. We’ll dance to some beautiful recordings from Guinea, Mali, Senegal and more!!
Wear comfortable clothing that you can move and stretch and sweat in, bring a water bottle and plan to dance barefoot or in supportive dance shoes only (no street shoes on the studio floor).
We’ll have lots of fun!

*Portland Yoga Studio Details:
- Students may enter the studio starting at 7:15pm to prepare for class (no earlier, please). Please be quiet when entering as there will be a yoga class completing at this time. There is an entrance area and changing rooms/bathrooms off of the entrance.
- You may use available parking spots marked for Portland Yoga Studio only behind the building, but you must have a PYS sticker on your dashboard or on your vehicle and be out no later than 9:15pm. Stickers are available in the entrance room to the studio. Please note, use of these spaces is only during class attendance and cars will be towed if being used outside of class time. Also since there are classes before ours the spaces may be taken already until the previous students vacate. You’ll want to plan accordingly.
Please help me to spread the word, and share this with your friends, sisters, brothers, etc! See you on the dance floor!
